Well-known on the pub circuit around Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and London, Bacchus is a fun-packed Blues and R&B machine. From Rob’s searing ‘Whammer Jammer’ harmonica wail and Stevie B’s virtuous piano to the biting, melodic twin- and triple-guitar harmonies, you get an unshakeable sense of a band of multi-instrumentalists in possession of a full (and fresh) set of strings.
Gigs are a crowd-pleasing mix of covers and originals with instant appeal – whilst the band’s recorded work focuses on home-grown material. Rob takes the main song-writing credits, with contributions from Toby and Steve in the mix as well.
Blues and R&B have always been a huge influence on the band. As well as delivering excellent rock shows, they regularly expand on those roots to deliver distinctive blues performances. They select material that avoids being overly familiar and simplistic – preferring powerful arrangements of truly great blues songs, old and new, original and cover.
Bacchus has appeared on Upton-on-Severn’s Blues Festival Star Stage, three out of the last four years and is booked again for 2019.
Bacchus’ blues features authentically stirring vocals, Allmans-esque trade-offs, dual and triple guitar and slide guitar with virtuoso Magic Dick-style blues harp and essential Hammond organ sounds.
